The Corticohippocampal Circuit: Memory and Executive Control

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) is the hub of this circuit, regulating not only the information flow through this circuit's nodes but also of the corticolimbic and corticostriatal circuits. The hippocampal formation (HF) mediates long-term declaritive memory and the afferent and efferent connections in the cortical columns of the dlPFC, along with sensory association areas, support executive control. Dysfunction within this circuit can result in disorders of thought such as schizophrenia.
